What is a GeauxPass?

  • GeauxPass is the name of Louisiana’s state-wide tolling system. A GeauxPass is a barcode sticker placed on a vehicle’s windshield behind the rearview mirror. An electronic chip inside the barcode will be read by the cameras as the vehicle passes under tolling equipment on the bridge.
  • The account associated with the GeauxPass will be billed electronically each time it passes under the tolling equipment. Accounts are set up in advance and a card is put on file to draw money electronically. Vehicles will be tolled crossing in both directions on the bridge, both northbound and southbound.
  • The GeauxPass is interoperable throughout Louisiana. It can be used at other Louisiana facilities with tolls, like LA 1 and the upcoming Calcasieu River Bridge.

How does billing work?

  • If you have a GeauxPass: drive across the Belle Chasse Bridge at normal speed. The equipment will read the chip inside and you’ll be billed electronically every time you pass through the bridge.
  • If you don’t have a GeauxPass: drive across the Belle Chasse Bridge at normal speed. The equipment will read your license plate and mail you a bill to whatever address is registered with that vehicle.
  • With either method there is no need to slow down or stop, and you don’t need to carry cash or coins. It’s super simple!

What are the features of the new bridge?

  • The most exciting feature of the new bridge is that it won’t lift! At its highest point, this bridge is 73’, so boats will travel underneath without the need to lift. Therefore, you won’t experience delays to accommodate marine traffic.
  • The new bridge replaces the tunnel completely. Both northbound and southbound LA 23 traffic will travel on the new Belle Chasse Bridge.
  • 4’ shoulders in each direction and a 5’ pedestrian / cyclist lane southbound.

How does the tolling equipment work?

  • When you drive across the new Belle Chasse Bridge, there will be equipment installed, called a Gantry, with lights and cameras overhead. That equipment will read the barcode on your GeauxPass or, if you don’t have a GeauxPass, it will read your license plate.
  • You will be billed electronically. You won’t need to stop, slow down, or carry cash/coins.
