Bridge Project and Operations
The team began managing the operations and maintenance of the Belle Chasse Tunnel and the Belle Chasse Bridge in April 2020. Construction of the new bridge was completed in 2025. With the new bridge now open, both vehicles and marine traffic enjoy smooth, uninterrupted access. Because the bridge is a fixed span reaching 73’ at its highest point, marine traffic can travel underneath without the need for bridge lifts.
Tolling Status
Tolling officially commenced in May 2025 after the bridge opened all four lanes to traffic; however, tolling was suspended in October 2025.
When tolling is active, the bridge utilizes an all-electronic system, meaning you do not need to slow down or stop to pay. A system of lights and cameras captures GeauxPass information to bill accounts electronically. For drivers without a GeauxPass, the equipment reads license plates and mails a bill to the address on file with the DMV. Please note: drivers without a GeauxPass are subject to a higher toll rate.
GeauxPass Information
GeauxPasses are available to the public. Please click here for more information on how to obtain your GeauxPass. Each vehicle requires its own GeauxPass, though multiple vehicles can be conveniently billed to a single account. Using a GeauxPass ensures you receive the lowest toll rate for your vehicle category. To activate your GeauxPass, you can set up your account online or contact a GeauxPass Customer Service Representative by phone for assistance.
Plaquemines Parish Resident Discount Residents of Plaquemines Parish with Class 1 vehicles who use a GeauxPass will pay a discounted toll rate of $0.26 per crossing. To qualify for this local discount, you must set up a GeauxPass account and provide the required proof of residency in Plaquemines Parish.

Inflation and Rate Adjustments Toll rates were originally established based on the 2019 Consumer Price Index (CPI) and were adjusted for inflation when the new Belle Chasse Bridge fully opened in 2025. These rates are subject to annual adjustments based on inflation fluctuations. While most toll categories may change yearly, the discounted rate for Plaquemines Parish Residents with a GeauxPass is $0.26.
Certain groups are entirely exempt from tolling, determined by Louisiana state law, including:
- Law Enforcement Vehicles
- Emergency Vehicles
- Fire Departments*
- Disabled Veterans
- School Busses and Mass Transit Vehicles
- Parade or group transportation of the Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, and Camp Fire Girls (minimum group size of 15 people)*
* Indicates toll exemption will be applied manually by Customer Service Representative after customer contacts the Geaux Pass Customer Service Center and provides the required information for each relevant transaction.
